    Great air gun.

    Review by

Great air gun, but heavy. Shooting half inch groups at 15 yards, even after not shooting a springer since I was young. Gun doesn’t seem to be hold sensitive and is not pellet fussy.

1st shot dead center right out of box.

    Review by

Took it out of the box -open sights- 1st shot dead on in my 28 foot hallway.
I have a bad neck -70 years old- so it was hard to get my eye lined up with the open sights, they just seemed too low for my comfort.

Luckily I had a tritium front sight, bought for 'some reason' then forgotten. Epoxy it on-raised rear sight to max.

DEAD CENTER once again and now comfortable for an oldster to shoot. Not sure why the HW 77K was harder to sight than my Diana 460-via eyeball sights do not look much lower relative to bore-stock-but...

WARNING - This rifle must be torn down and cleaned/lubricated before use!

    Review by

After shooting about 200 pellets the HW77K could not be cocked -- it wouldn't latch open. I completely disassembled it and found that there was a large metal burr at the rear bottom of the outer cylinder preventing the air chamber from moving all the way to the rear when being cocked. The burr had been gouged out of the bottom of the outer chamber by a piece of metal that appeared to have broken off of the very thin flattened end of the spring.

I also noted that the spring and other interior parts were covered with a disgusting mixture of heavy grease, dirt and metal filings -- the filings probably a result of the damage noted above.

I was unpleasantly surprised at how crudely this rifle is built -- many rough surfaces in the cocking mechanism.

After spending hours cleaning, then grinding and polishing to remove the burr and smooth all the rough surfaces, the rifle was reassembled with light lubrication on all appropriate surfaces. A trip to the range showed us that the HW77K behaved like a different gun. Cocking it was very smooth and much easier than before. The ""twang"" that was heard when firing was gone. And, there is less recoil. This was very rewarding after all the effort to clean and tune the gun!

Weihrauch quality control is obviously lacking. A new gun should not be filthy, over-greased, and have metal fragments floating around inside! Machined surfaces should not be rough to the touch!

    Pros:
    Accurate

    Cons:
Filthy spring and interior components, poorly machined cocking mechanism

    Weihrauch HW77 K problems

    Review by

Seems the barrel is ever so slightly misaligned on the 77K I received. No damage was evident on the rifle or the box it came in. One has to wonder about Weihrauch's quality assurance! It was physically impossible to lower the rear sight far enough to sight in the rifle. It shot extremely high and left. I was able to adjust horizontal alignment, but the rear sight notch was then off center of the rifle by at least 2 mm. I wanted to shoot iron sights. Disappointingly, that's not possible.

Installed a scope, sighted in the rifle at 45 meters, and found it to be a very accurate and consistent shooter out to 65 meters. Even at 90 meters it grouped within a 15 cm circle in windy conditions shooting 8..44 gr pellets. I tried heavier pellets, but they drop too far over the 90 meter distance. The 8.44s chrono'd at 900 ft/sec, excellent velocity for a spring gun. Easily knocks down small iron silhouettes out to 65 meters.

If the trigger adjustment screw is backed out to reduce the pull force it will be so loose that it will eventually fall out. One solution is to wrap it with teflon plumber's tape so that it is tight in the threads. If this is not done the screw will eventually back out and disappear because of the amount of vibration the gun produces when fired.

Krale offered to take the 77K back, but with the expense of shipping it to Europe from Arizona it isn't worth the money and effort to return, since the gun works so well using the scope.

    Pros:
Seems well built. Shoots flat. Tight groups. Nice adjustable trigger. Looks good.

    Cons:
Very heavy. Unable to sight it in - possible barrel misalignment. Kicks hard -- you have to work hard to stabilize it for accurate shots. Trigger adjust screw will fall out.

What a great air rifle, everything is exceptionally good. Its a joy to shoot, pellet after pellet and that's just out of the box. Also great service from the staff of Krale.
