I'm quite satisfied
I recently purchased a Snowpeak PR900 G3 PCP air rifle and have been testing its performance, focusing primarily on accuracy and muzzle velocity. For the accuracy tests, I shot from a stable sandbag rest at a distance of 12 meters to get a true sense of the rifle's precision.
I measured the velocity of different pellet weights at the muzzle and noticed that pellets lighter than 0.67 grams tended to reach velocities that were too high for consistent accuracy. Here are the velocities I recorded:
· 0.47 g – ~299 m/s
· 0.48 g – ~300 m/s
· 0.51 g – ~295 m/s
· 0.53 g – ~294 m/s
· 0.56 g – ~285 m/s
· 0.67 g – ~267 m/s
· 0.75 g – ~260 m/s
Based on my testing, I've concluded that the 0.67 g pellets deliver the best balance of accuracy and consistency, with a velocity of around 267 m/s. Lighter pellets, while faster, appear to sacrifice precision due to their higher velocities.
With pellets weighing 0.67 g and above, shot groups consistently stay within the size of a €0.02 coin at 12 meters, which speaks volumes about the rifle's precision.
I did experience a minor issue with the bolt, but it was easily resolved by applying a small amount of lithium grease to the rear part of the bolt assembly, taking care to avoid contact with the O-rings.
Considering the very affordable price, the Snowpeak PR900 G3 offers impressive accuracy for its class. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the rifle's performance when paired with the right pellet weight.
