Garmin Xero L60i Laser Rangefinder & Navigator
This Garmin Xero L60i laser rangefinder and navigator offers many functionalities beyond its great rangefinding abilities. Thanks to the overlay, these are projected on the glass, allowing information to be displayed on the lens.
First, the foundation of the Xero L60i: the 7x magnification allows for accurate measurements, while allowing a wide enough field of view to also observe around the target. Once a target is brought into view, the range can be measured with the press of a button. The range is displayed clearly below the aiming point, after which the range measurement is saved by the laser rangefinder. Its mapping and GPS functions later help you navigate to your target mark through Laser Locate.
Maximum ranges
The stated ranges below are quoted by the manufacturer as maximum measuring ranges under ideal circumstances.
- Animals: 2775 metres
- Trees: 3600 metres
- Large, reflective surfaces: 7000 metres
Other functionalities
After a range is measured, the on-board GPS truly shines. It can be utilised to plan a route to a measured point, or to display this point on a map. Altitude is also displayed on the map. The GPS also allows for planning routes ahead of time, between previously saved or previously measured locations.
An exceptional feature is the Garmin-coined ‘visual recall’ function. It uses the different sensors in the laser rangefinder to determine the exact point in space where the measured point is located. When the user moves to a different location in order to find a better firing position, for instance, this exact point can be found again. To do so, the display of the laser rangefinder guides the user to the measured point. This also functions in conjunction with Garmin Share, which allows for data sharing with other compatible Garmin devices. This allows for flawless communication of a target, without requiring additional explanation. The ‘visual recall’ function also allows for navigation in the dark, or for example can help to find game after it was shot.
With the built-in ballistic calculator, adjustments on a scope that are required to hit the target can be calculated. By making use of the AB Quantum app, profiles for specific rifles and ammunition types can be uploaded to the Garmin Xero L60i laser rangefinder. These are then factored into the calculations, along with other relevant factors such as the direction of the wind and elevation. The suggested adjustments can be displayed in MIL (Milliradian) and MOA (Minute Of Angle). Also included is a separate mode which provides ballistic calculations for archery.
