Fit and finish is perfect. Love the bull barrel and the new stock design. My first purchase from Krale (I’m in USA) and gun arrived in 4 business days - amazing!
Very briefly: it is quality. Perfect construction, the speed exceeds all expectations and it's constant. When you pick it up, you understand that Gamo, Hatsan, Crossman and others are completely different. I loved it. from the first minute of use. If you try, you will understand. This is all.
The HW 98 is my first Weihrauch product. It is a beauty and very high quality that one would expect from a German made product. I shoot only targets and only 100 yards and at first, it was pretty good accuracy but not stellar. A little noisy and pretty good recoil. Accuracy was not as good as my RWS 54.
Then I got the Vortek PG4 tune kit and never having tuned one before, I just followed the instructions and WOW, what a wonderful improvement. I really love the clean and pleasant thump it makes now, and the accuracy is unbelievable. As good as Weihrauch is, it is still a great improvement to get the Vortek tune kit for it, since the tune kit is what brings out its full potential. On a calm day, it is not hard to pick off the 2 inch diameter spinners at 100yds. I am very glad I went with Weihrauch and I am equally glad I purchased from Krale, and I am glad I put in the Vortek tune kit. One last thing, I am not a great marksman and I shoot only from bags as my own skills would only detract from the potential of the HW98.
Packing: the package was packed securely with bubble wrapping several times all the way around the original box, and it seated inside a big box.
Shipping: It was fast and secured via UPS without any damage.
Rifle: I took it out of the box, it is intact, there are not any signs of handling marks. I test fired without any pre-cleaning, excellent.
Krale: Krale website offers the lowest price air rifles.
This is my 5th Weihrach springer. Like the others, it is very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. It is in .177 caliber and now has about 300 shots through it. I just chronographed the H&N FTT 8.64 gr pellet and averaged 856 fps (261 mps) for 10 shots.
Cocking effort I would describe as moderate, about the same as my HW 95 but more than the HW30. There is a small amount of vibration in the firing cycle, but I expect this to smooth after more firing. The finish quality of the wood and metal is outstanding. Even though the stock is beech, I believe, the stain makes it resemble walnut.
The stippling on the grip and forearm is very helpful for offhand shooting, which is how I shoot exclusively. The rifle arrived to west coast USA in perfect condition. There is not a single blemish of even the smallest size. My only complaint is that the thread protector screwed onto the muzzle works loose and must be tightened occasionally. Overall, I am very pleased.
The HW98 is beautifully finished, shoots better than my HW90 and is almost on par with the HW77. All my rifles are .177. For a break barrel, the HW98 is unbelievably accurate, consistent and a joy to shoot with. Of the trio mentioned it is my current favourite. This is not a result of looks alone. I especially like the adjustable cheek piece.
i ordered mid-day Wednesday and received my rifle in perfect condition in Texas, USA forty seven hours later. Krale is the best!
I've wanted an HW 98 for a long time, finally ordered one from Krale and I am impressed. I've owned several R1's, R10's, an RX1 and the HW98 feels 'just right' in size, weight and recoil for its power. I have the .177 and it is shooting H&N FTT at 885 FPS and JSB Exact Heavies at 830 FPS for 15-15.8 FP. Barrel sleeve is nice in weight - the rifle balances right at the forend - and pleasant to grip when cocking. The stippling not only looks great, it is grippier than checkering. The only thing I could have wished for is a .20 caliber option. Thanks to Krale for making the purchase so easy.
This gun is a beauty! I've had the HW 95 and HW 97, but this is my favorite so far. Stock with stipling on the pistol grip and forearm, is a target shooter's dream. The adjustable cheek rest and butt plate are much welcomed features for any serious target shooter (no need for a custom aftermarket stock! May be my most accurate rifle to date. Shot cycle is smooth and easy to handle. I'm all about accuracy, but I have to say, this is one sweet looking rifle. I also want to point out that Krale has great customer service and shipping. I received my rifle in about 4 days here in the states. Thanks again Krale, my go-to store for match grade air rifles and accessories.
Pros:
Excellent fit and finish. Adjustable cheek rest and butt pad. Extremely accurate. Points beautifully.
Cons:
Maybe the weight for those wanting a lightweight gun.
I'm a big fan of Weihrauch air rifles, and I think the HW98 is the best one that I've owned to date. I purchased it for use at the range with the intent of working on my form. I use it for off-hand, kneeling, sitting, and prone position shooting, and it excels at each. It also shoots great off of a bag. In my opinion, the HW98 strikes the perfect balance between field and target: you can use it for hunting or you can use it for target shooting. It does both well. As for the stock, I have never had a gun with one that adjusts, and I am already hooked. I am 76 inches (193 centimeters), so most stocks are too small for me. I can compensate by adjusting my hold; however, with the HW98, I don't have to do so. The stock is adjusted so that it fits me like a glove. I am really enjoying this rifle. I highly recommend it and Krale.
Pros:
High quality materials and workmanship; beautiful weight and balance; amazingly accurate; easy to cycle; good looking; adjustable stock.
Cons:
At 8.4 pounds (3800 grams), I like the weight of this rifle, but some might feel that it is too heavy.
