Airsoft clothing is an important aspect of airsoft. Of course, you can play airsoft with just an airsoft replica and a handful of BB’s. But then you’re missing the point completely, as airsoft is much more than just firing little balls at each other. Airsoft is a complete experience for which you not only need that replica, you also need proper airsoft clothing. You’ll be wearing airsoft clothing to fit into the realistic character of the sport, but also to get the most out of it. Just like with football, to name a popular sport, you want wear specific clothing and footwear that can give you the best advantage and aid you in your airsoft experience.
Depending how and where you practice airsoft, you’ll need certain airsoft clothing. For instance, when you’re participating in a milsim, you’ll want to wear military looking airsoft clothing. Sometimes even certain types of camouflage are mandatory. When you’re doing a skirm however, the rules are less strict and you can often wear any airsoft clothing you like. To help finding the best airsoft clothing for you, we’ll take you through some considerations that you have to make.
Camouflaging airsoft clothing
Airsoft clothing is worn for multiple reasons, but one of the most important reasons to wear airsoft clothing is camouflage. You obviously want to stay well hidden, to avoid being spotted by opponent. For this, you need natural colours or even camouflage print to blend into your surroundings. In our store, but also online in our webshop, we’ve got loads of airsoft clothing in different shades of green, but also sand coloured, brown airsoft clothing. And of course, multiple camouflage prints are available too. There’s no surrounding we can’t let you blend into.
Protective airsoft clothing
Airsoft obviously isn’t a game of chest, meaning your airsoft clothing will have to endure some abuse. You’ll be running through undergrowth, sit on the ground, slide over concrete, et cetera. Especially trousers will have a hard time, but the materials used are strong. Some airsoft trousers even have removable knee pads or at least feature pockets on the knees where you can slide in a knee pad.
Regarding protection, we’ve got many tactical airsoft gloves in stock too. Gloves are an important piece of airsoft clothing. You’ll soon appreciate them when you notice how often you scratch your hands and be especially appreciative after been hit with a BB on your hand. Airsoft gloves can have hard protection on the knuckles and often feature grip enhancing material on the palm and fingers.
And no need to explain that sneakers aren’t very suitable for airsoft. You’ll need shoes with a sturdy sole and a good grip. They preferably cover your ankles too, to avoid chafing them and to provide some support. Airsoft is a very active sport where things can get rough. Robust shoes really are a must.
Weatherproof airsoft clothing
When airsofting, you can get pretty warm very quickly. But it can get cold too. Especially when you’re laying still, getting wet in the rain and feeling sorry for yourself as a sniper. Good airsoft clothing can offer you comfort on different levels. For instance, by being breathable and wicking away moist when you’re hot or by insulating (thermal underwear) when you’re cold or by offering a wind and waterproof outer layer. We’ve got airsoft clothing of all sorts and sizes for a base layer, a middle layer and an outer layer.
Headwear for airsoft
Often, a helmet is worn when airsofting (you can find these under ‘Tactical Gear’ in our webshop) but when you don’t, it’s advisable to at least wear something on your head to give some protection against incoming BB’s. And it will offer some camouflage too. We’ve got hats, caps and balaclava’s, the latter offering the extra advantage of camouflaging your face too.
Besides all that we’ve we mentioned above about colour (camouflage), weather resistance and comfort, there are some other things to consider when buying airsoft clothing. Pockets for storage are one thing for example. Of course, you can wear a tactical vest with loads of pouches, but having plenty of pockets in your airsoft clothing can be quite convenient too. Especially when you’re doing a milsim, where specific military situations are recreated. You might be needing a map and compass somewhere between the energy bars you’ve got stashed away.
And then there’s the fit, an extremely important factor. You want your airsoft clothing to give you all the freedom of movement you need, but an oversized shirt or trousers that are too wide (though we’ve got belts) will only hinder you. In our Staphorst based store, we’ve got spacious fitting rooms where you can comfortably fit all airsoft clothing. And for those of you buying online, we’ve made a big effort to inform you about the correct sizes available. Please ask our experts for advice if you need some. All our advice is tailor-made to fit your specific needs and it’s free too!
