Chronograph Garmin Xero C1 Pro
The Garmin Xero C1 Pro chronograph is very compactly designed, without sacrificing functionality or ease of use. And if we say it is compact, then we mean it is truly compact. It has a size of only 77x60.5x34.4 mm and it weighs 105.6 grams. It’ll fit into your pants’ pocket easily.
But for any chronograph, what matters most is how accurately it can register projectile speed. The Garmin Xero C1 Pro chronograph uses a Doppler radar for measuring speeds ranging from 100 fps to 5000 fps. This means it sends out microwaves, which bounce back off of the desired target, which in this case is the projectile that’s being shot. The variation in frequency provides a highly accurate measurement of the projectile’s velocity. During setup, you can indicate which object you will be firing a projectile with, which will affect the measurable fps:
• Rifles up to 5000 fps
• Bows and crossbows up to 600 fps
• Pistols up to 5000 fps
• Air rifles up to 2000 fps
• Airsoft replicas up to 1000 fps
• Other projectiles up to 5000 fps
The chronograph provides highly accurate measurements and everything is clearly displayed on the 240x320p display. It shows what mode you are in and how many shots it has already registered in the current session. The most recently measured velocity is displayed in the middle of the screen. Below that are three data fields, which can be used to show any of the available data. You can choose the most relevant data for your shooting experience and have that be displayed. The following data is available for display in the data fields:
• Average (AVG): Displays the average velocity recorded in the current session.
• Deviation from average (DEV/AVG): Displays how far the velocity of the most recent shot deviates from the average velocity of shots in the current session.
• Extreme spread (EXT SPRD): Displays the extreme spread of the shot velocities recorded in the current session.
• Kinetic energy (KE): Displays the kinetic energy calculated for the most recent shot. You must provide the projectile weight to use this data field.
• Maximum (MAX): Displays the maximum velocity recorded in the current session.
• Minimum (MIN): Displays the minimum velocity recorded in the current session.
• Power factor (PF): Displays the power factor -which is a measurement of the projectile’s momentum- for the most recent shot. You must provide the projectile weight to use this data field.
• Standard deviation (STD DEV): Displays the standard deviation of shot velocities in the current session.
The chronograph also registers suppressed shots. All of the data registered by the chronograph can be viewed on your smartphone. The Garmin Xero C1 Pro chronograph can be connected to the ShotView smartphone app. Using the app will allow you to keep an eye on the data collected in all of your sessions and review it whenever you like.
The Garmin Xero C1 Pro chronograph has only four buttons located on top of its housing, which allow you to easily operate it. Those buttons allow you to access the menu and input data. This chronograph has ¼-20 thread on the bottom and it can easily be mounted onto the tripod that comes with it. If you’re shooting a rifle, you can put the chronograph down on either side of the barrel. Shooting with something like a bow or a pistol will require you to place the chronograph directly underneath the shot’s trajectory. This means you won’t have to mount the chronograph on your rifle, so it won’t affect your shot or the data collected in any way.
This Garmin Xero C1 Pro chronograph has an IPX7 waterproof rating, which means it can be submerged to a depth of one metre for a maximum duration of 30 minutes. With a waterproof rating like that, this chronograph is more than ready to withstand any rain that might come your way. It has a Lithium-Ion battery with a battery life of six hours (roughly 2000 shots). If it doesn’t detect any shots for more than 30 minutes, the chronograph will shut down automatically to preserve its battery. You can charge the battery by using a USB-C cable and the charging time is about four hours.
