What is tactical gear?

Tactical gear is everything that’ll help you execute specific tasks. Well-known tactical military gear are plate carriers that can hold ballistic plates (armour plates) and tactical vests that feature multiple pockets, compartments and pouches to keep all your gear close at hand. Velcro and MOLLE loops are often used for attachment of additional items. Chest rigs are another example. These are quite similar to the battle belts that we’ve got, but the chest rigs have shoulder straps to help spread the weight of the gear that you’re carrying more evenly over your body.

But tactical gear is more than just extremely functional items of clothing that are made for carrying gear or armour on your body. The tactical gear that we’re offering, also consists of helmets and face masks for airsoft, hydration systems, headsets with PTT’s (Push To Talk), safety glasses and, of course, bags and backpacks. In short, tactical gear is everything that’s not directly clothing in the most traditional sense of the word, but that’ll help you to perform your duties in the safest and most comfortable way possible. It’s the ultimate combination of practical gear and safety gear.

Is there a difference for army tactical gear and airsoft tactical gear?

There’s a large overlap between the tactical assault gear that the military uses, the tactical defence gear that law enforcement uses and airsoft tactical gear. A lot of the tactical gear that we sell comes from brands that supply military, law enforcement and private security all over the world. And we get plenty of professionals that buy additional tactical gear besides the gear that they get from their employers. This is top of the line tactical gear and as the quality is high, these products are also very popular amongst airsofters as their gear gets at least as much abuse as it would with professionals, maybe even more.

The professional tactical gear that you can buy in our store, is supplemented with specific airsoft tactical gear brands. That way, we can offer the best tactical gear for both professionals and airsofters. You can find tactical military gear like plate carriers, chest rigs and pouches and airsoft tactical gear such as helmets and masks. Our assortment is vast enough for you to put together a full tactical gear assembly to your own specifications. In short, lots of our tactical gear is army tactical gear and where needed for specific airsoft needs, we’ve got dedicated airsoft tactical gear.

Tactical gear maintenance

All our tactical military gear and airsoft tactical gear is high quality with durable materials and should last you a long time. However, as with all things, maintenance will have its benefits. For textile products, a good rinse or washing every now and then is recommendable. If textile is ripped, it has to be sewn to prevent the edges of the material from fraying. And a loose thread is best burned carefully with a lighter instead of cutting it off. As most tactical gear has synthetic fabrics, burning a thread will stop the end from fraying and secures it in place indefinitely.

It’s not something you might consider, but even Velcro needs maintenance. Always keep Velcro closed to prevent dirt and sand from getting between the hooks and loops. The dirtier it gets, the less adhesion the Velcro will offer and the material will get to endure more wear too. If Velcro does get dirty, rinse it with water or wash it with mild detergent if greasy.

And always keep your zippers closed. By doing that, you prevent the zipper catching on things and getting damaged. It also prevents the zippers from damaging other materials. When a zipper is starting to slide less smoothly than it should, don’t ignore it until you rip it apart. Just subtly oil it with silicon oil. Even Teflon spray, like the stuff you use on your bicycle, will work just fine, as does candle wax.

Buying tactical gear

In the tactical gear department of our store, you’ll find a wide range of products. Of course, you often know what you’re looking for, or browsing our gear will give you inspiration. However, we still want to give you some pointers to help you select the best tactical gear for your needs. The first thing we want to mention is the importance of matching the colours of the tactical gear with your clothing when you’re wearing camouflage. It might sound logical, but experience tells us that not everybody is that adept in matching colours by memory. So keep a piece of camouflage clothing next to your screen or take it with you to our store to make sure you’re getting the right colour match.

Also, think about what you want to carry with you on your body. A battle belt, for instance, can be quite handy, but when you’re carrying a lot of weight on it, a chest rig probably would be a better option. A tactical vest could offer you even more storage options and provide an extra layer of insulation, although the latter could be a disadvantage too in hot weather. So, keep in mind what you want to carry with you and under which weather circumstances you want to use the tactical gear.

With PTT’s and headsets, it’s important to determine in advance if you’re going to wear a helmet or not. And -as a result- if you opt for earmuffs or earpieces. We’ve even got bone conduction speakers. If you’re in doubt which option is best for you, please feel free to ask our experts for advice. We’re glad to help and with our experience, you can be sure you’ll always get sound advice.
