Beretta develops and produces a wide variety of guns. Ranging from pistols to rifles and shotguns for hunting, sports and government and military services. Very well-known is their semi-automatic 92 FS pistol, that has been the standard issue service pistol of the United States Armed Forces
for almost four decades (under the M9 name). A lot of Beretta’s handguns are directly related to, or an improved version of this immensely successful concept. Of course, Beretta pistols aren’t solely found in government services, they can also be found in many levels of sport shooting and we’ve got some nice examples of those for sale in our shop.
Regarding rifles, Beretta also has made quite a name for itself, both in hunting and in sport shooting. When looking at -for instance- Olympic clay shooting, you’ll see Beretta competition shotguns up there in the highest echelons. The brand Beretta
The name Beretta as an arms brand is well-known. Which isn’t strange, considering the fact that it’s the oldest arms manufacturer in the world. Back in the sixteenth century, Mastro Martolomeo Beretta founded a forgery in the North Italian town Gardone in the Val Trompia valley, where iron ore has been won since Roman times. There’s an old document, mentioning the sale of 185 arquebus barrels to the Arsenal of Venice.
Ever since the beginning, Beretta has remained a family company. And at the start of the twentieth century, Benelli decided to go big. They simplified their designs for easy of manufacturing, claimed many patents and invested heavily in modern production methods to be able to produce guns at a very large scale. By focussing on development and expansion, Beretta grew to be one of the biggest arms brands in the world.
Beretta Holding, as the family-owned company is fully named, also owns Sako, Benelli and Steiner. They still reside in Gardone, Val Trompia, where the production facility is. But Beretta also invested in an USA based second headquarters in Accoceek, Maryland and a production facility in Gallatin, Tennessee to be able to supply the American market efficiently.
