What is a range bag?
A range bag is a very practical shooting bag, that’ll hold all your shooting gear. Most of these gun range bags feature multiple pockets for you to keep everything tidy and organised. That’s not only very practical, it also saves you quite a bit of time as everything will have its designated spot.
A range bag is used -as the name suggest- when you’re going to the shooting range. The idea is that you’re not carrying around everything in your pockets and separate bags, but that everything is sorted together neatly and as compact as possible in one easy to carry bag. A range bag is used in all categories of sport shooting, from clay shooting to long distance shooting. They’re ideal for pistol shooters, as in a pistol range bag you’ve got everything you need, including your pistol. The range bag is also very popular in airsoft. There it goes by the name of tactical range bag, because of its extremely versatile character and practical usability.
How to use a gun range bag?
A gun range bag is used to take everything you need with you in one bag. Whether it’s a clay shooting range bag or a pistol range bag, the idea is that you take all your necessities in one dedicated range bag. This has two advantages: one is that you’re just carrying one bag and two is that you are making sure you’ve got everything you need, instead of searching all over the place for things you might need. There’s nothing worse than arriving at the range and discovering you’ve forgotten something. With a range bag, everything you need will be in the bag and the only thing you need to worry about is refilling the stuff you’ve used.

Buying a range bag
When buying a range bag, finding the best range bag for you requires consideration from your part. The first thing you want to do, is have a good look at the compartment layout. The more specific compartments a range bag has, the easier it will be to give all your gear its own designated spot. This will make everything easier to find at the range, while also preventing rattling and chafing. How many compartments and pockets you need, completely depends on what you want to take with you and how you want to store them. We can imagine that -for example- a bottle of oil and a cloth are kept together, while magazines are better kept separate.
It’s also wise to think about how you want to carry the range bag. If you’re only carrying the bag for a short distance, a range bag with just carrying handles will be fine. However, if you’re covering some distance or have a large and heavy range bag, you might want to consider one with a shoulder strap to prevent straining your arm muscles too much before shooting. And one last thing to keep your eye on: if you want to be able to lock your range bag, look for one with double zippers that feature interlocking lock eyes.
