Shovel Böker Plus M1874
This Böker Plus M1874 shovel’s design is based on the first German ‘Feldspaten’ field spade, introduced in 1874 and used in both World Wars. After the knife, it’s one of the most versatile outdoor tools, and its durable design makes it superior to modern folding spades. Its uses are:
• Digging
• Splitting firewood
• Cutting down trees
• Clearing undergrowth
• Managing campfire
• Aid for climbing steep slopes
• Makeshift crowbar
• Emergency paddle and knife
Like the original German 1874 field spade, it features:
• Two-part construction (blade and spring) secured with five studs and a 40 mm wide steel ferrule
• Ash wood handle, secured halfway
• Pre-ground blade edges, suitable for digging, splitting wood, and delimbing
• High resistance to breakage, shock loads, and easy to re-sharpen in the field.
More modern properties are:
• Blade and spring made of tough stainless steel (used in steam turbine blades and surgical instruments)
• Durable and low maintenance sheath made of moisture-resistant black nylon with synthetic insert
