We often get asked the question where a Hatsan is made; Hatsan is a Turkish family business, located in Izmir. From the start in 1976, Hatsan has grown to be one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of airguns. One of the things the company takes immense pride in, is the fact the whole production process is done in-house. They’ve got their own design department and buy the raw materials needed for airgun manufacturing, such as quality steel for barrels and highly regarded Turkish walnut for stocks. All parts are made by Hatsan and even the molds needed are made in-house. Everything, from boring the barrels, bluing the metal, forging parts, assembly and testing is done by Hatsan in their own facilities. To confirm the picture now forming in your mind: Hatsan is a very big company, producing large numbers of airguns.
An air rifle or air pistol can have multiple ways to create air pressure. Hatsan recognises what customers want and caters for every budget. For this, they use the three most popular power sources:
Hatsan is well known for their magnum airguns, their focus clearly lies on developing very powerful, contemporary airguns. Whether it’s a springer, a Vortex gasram or a PCP, Hatsan has the tendency to literary overpower the competition regarding power. It’s one of the few manufacturers to produce a PCP air rifle that has a power of over a 1000 Joules (800 ft.lb).
But power is just one part of the package Hatsan has to offer. The company is innovative and their models tend to differ from traditional airguns. For instance, they’ve got some interesting semi-automatic and even fully automatic airguns in their line-up. Besides that, many Hatsan airguns feature thumbhole stocks or are designed with a tactical look. And lots of Hatsan air pistols come with a detachable stock, which makes them partly air pistol, partly air rifle. Even when it comes to calibres, Hatsan has a lot to offer. Their airguns range from .177 (4.5 mm) up to a staggering .50 (12.7 mm).
Hatsan is known to be a contemporary airgun manufacturer, designing their airguns with an in-house design team. Throughout the years, they perfected their designs and developed some key elements that come back on most of their models. These are some of them:
As we’ve mentioned before, Hatsan has quite a strong presence in the semi-automatic and even fully automatic field. It’s admirable for a manufacturer that’s mass-producing airguns, to not only focus on easy to manufacture airguns but also don’t shy away from more complicated and expensive designs. Hatsan surely listens to the needs of the whole market for airguns and opts to cater for different needs in all their variety.
