Where does RCBS come from?
RCBS is well-known and appreciated by reloaders worldwide. But when asked, not many will know where the letters stand for. The story behind the RCBS-name is quite funny tough. RCBS was set up in 1943 by Fred T. Huntington in Oroville, California in the United States. Fred used to hunt rock chucks (yellow-bellied marmots) and had a hard time finding quality ammunition. He made a bullet swaging die to make his own ammunition and with great result. It worked so well, that he ended up producing more, selling them as RCBS dies with the letters standing for Rock Chuck Bullet Swage. You couldn’t guess that, even if you tried…
The small company quickly took off, grew immensely and the assortment became larger with all sorts of reloading equipment being developed. The swage dies became less important, until they eventually were discontinued (RCBS does still offer forging dies though). Nowadays, RCBS is one of the biggest suppliers of reloading products in the world. The company kept foot in Oroville, where a lot of production is still done. Part of the production is outsourced, as is quite normal in this global market. The quality is still high for both US manufactured and outsourced products. RCBS stands for what is produces.
What does RCBS make?
The question might also be: what doesn’t RCBS make? When it comes to ammunition reloading, RCBS is a one-stop brand. They’ve got it all. This starts with the cleaning of spent cases, for which RCBS has cleaning media, but -for instance- also offers ultrasonic cleaners, brushes and media separators.
For sizing the cases, RCBS has a staggering amount of dies available and naturally, their reloading presses are highly regarded. And from trimming to deburring, RCBS has a tool for everything. Lest we forget the scales, powder tricklers, powder dispensers, et cetera. We can go on and on, but fact is that RCBS offers you everything you need for safe and accurate reloading.
