The AR-556 MPR by Ruger comes with a synthetic MOE SL stock on a Mil-Spec buffer tube. The length of pull can be adjusted from 28.1 to 36.5 cm (11.1 to 14.4”), which comes down to a total range of 8.4 cm (3.3”). A Magpul MOE grip has been fitted to the lower receiver. The free-floating handguard features M-LOK slots on the sides and bottom, and a Weaver/Picatinny rail on top that is situated all the way over the upper receiver.
The cold hammer-forged barrel of 4140 chrome-moly steel with ultra-precise rifling provides excellent accuracy, durability and ease of cleaning. The twist rate of 1:8 stabilises bullets with a weight of 35 to 77 grain. The ½-28 muzzle thread offers the possibility for a silencer or muzzle brake, the standard included muzzle brake by Ruger features radial ports which reduce the effect of recoil and muzzle movement.
Ruger equipped the AR-556 with a 5.56 NATO chamber, good for 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem ammunition. The bolt carrier and gas key have chrome-plated inside diameters for excellent resistance against hot gasses. To prevent it from getting loose after extensive firing, the gas key has been staked, and the Mil-Spec 9310 bolt has been shot peened for a strong and durable exterior. The rifle-length gas system ensures of smooth operation of the rifle and also decreases recoil. The upper receiver is manufactured from 7075-T6 aluminium and features a forward assist, dust cover and brass reflector, finished with a Type III Hard-Coat Anodised outer layer. To get to actual shooting, Ruger fitted the AR-556 MPR with their in-house made Elite 452 AR trigger: a two-stage trigger with a trigger weight of 4.5 lbs (2 kg).
The Ruger AR-556 MPR comes with a metal 10 round magazine, for users in regions with restrictions that don’t allow a higher capacity.
