Looking to buy a quality machete? In both our store as in our webshop, we’ve got a nice assortment of machetes for the outdoor lover, but also for vivid collectors. Because, let’s be honest, we all know machetes have something about them that makes it irresistible to want to own them.
A cross between knife and axe
Machetes are originally farmers hand tools and are still used in some parts of the world where mechanisation hasn’t set foot. Besides that, it’s always been the perfect tool to make your way through dense undergrowth in forests and jungles. The long and thick blade has some weight to it, making its long cutting edge much more effective than an axe. You could say a machete is the perfect cross between a knife and an axe. Some weight for momentum and a large cutting edge for maximum effectivity.
Perfect for bushcraft
A machete isn’t a direct replacement for a strong axe, but if you’re not directly looking to build a log cabin, you could do just nicely with a machete for making a robust tripod and collecting fire wood. And you’ll be very grateful for the length of the blade when dealing with brambles, nettles and the likes. We’ll be the first to acknowledge what we’re about to suggest is improper use and it will play havoc with the sharpness, but if needs must, you can also use a machete to dig. Sharpening them can even be done with a file, although we’d recommend a sharpening stone. Please note that the edge needs to have less of a steep angle compared to a knife blade, somewhere around 35 degrees will do just fine.
Coconuts and garden parties
Okay, we hear you; when you’re not going outdoors in a serious way, but are still attracted to the sheer impressiveness of a machete, you just need an excuse to own one. Well, a good example is to finally tackle your neglected garden. You could do that with an expensive and noisy, petrol slurping brush cutter, but a machete will do the job too. It’s inexpensive, has a certain authenticity about it, will help you with your mindfulness and gives you a great workout! And whoever has bought a coconut, only to discover those things are hard as a rock, will appreciate having a machete laying around. And although a machete won’t cut you thin slices of a tomato, it will very effectively chop down the whole plant in one swing. So it will be a great tool for allotments at the end of the season too!
