Pocket Knife Benchmade Mini Osborne Black
This Benchmade 940 Mini Osborne Black is an absolute classic when it comes to EDC’s. This agile and extremely robust pocket knife is designed by the late Warren Osborne, a well-known custom knife maker who -being a down-to-earth country man- combined design with practical use and durability.
As material for the blade, the choice fell on CPM S30V steel. This is a powdered steel where the different ingredients aren’t blended in one molten mass, but are mixed in powdered form, making for a better homogeneity. They’re heated near melting point, making them come together as a whole in a different way than in a conventional melting process. In this case, more hardness can be created (HRC 58-60). The steel is very corrosion resistant and incredibly hardwearing, making for a great edge retention.
The blade of the Benchmade 940 Mini Osborne Black has a reversed tanto point, making the point very strong and enabling it to be suitable for a wide range of purposes. You can open the blade one-handed by means of a thumb stud, after which it clicks into Benchmade’s own secure Axis lock. This is a hardened steel pin that moves in slots in both handle plates, to slide behind a wedge on the blade’s tang.
For the handle, Benchmade has chosen for strong and water resistant G10 material, a laminate of woven glass fibres and synthetic resin, pressed together under high pressure and at high temperature, resulting in a very strong and grippy material. The contrasting blue liners and spacers are a nice detail.
The pocket knife features a tip-up pocket clip that can be mounted both left and right.
