The BRX1 is the first large calibre hunting rifle by Beretta. This rifle comes is equipped with a straight-pull bolt, of which the bolt handle can be reversed without any tools to make the rifle ambidextrously operable. The straight-pull system also makes for fluent reloading by having to execute just two movements, instead of the usual four when using a regular bolt.
The safety switch is situated on the rear of the receiver and can be operated with the thumb, again by left- and right-handed shooters. This safety switch has three positions: the first position blocks the trigger, hammer and bolt, for during transport or storage. The middle position only blocks the trigger, to be able to safely load or unload the rifle. In the third position, the rifle is fully free and ready to fire.
Beretta equipped the BRX1 with a bolt head with 8 lugs, while magnum calibres have 16 lugs for extra resistance to be able to withstand the large quantities of energy released by these large calibres. Besides this, switching between calibres can be done quite easily, only the barrel, bolt head and magazine need to be switched out. The v-shape of the bedding offers a reliable platform for the barrel and receiver to rest on, which ensures consistent accuracy, also after switching calibre.
The trigger weight can be adjusted in three steps between 950 en 1500 grams, and the magazine with capacity for 5 cartridges is completely flush with the receiver when inserted, and it comes in a bright orange colour for optimal visibility. To be able to install optics, the BRX1 comes with a removable Weaver/Picatinny mounting rail on top of the receiver, and the external M14 muzzle thread (with thread protector) offers the option for montage of a suppressor.
Furthermore, Beretta fitted the hunting rifle with a stock made of polymer, a low-maintenance and weather-resistant material, and comes with a texturised grip and forend for a better hold. The stock also comes with attachment points for a rifle sling, and the length-of-pull can be adjusted by placing spacers between the stock and butt plate.
